Sanding disks are a flat alternative to sanding bands for nail drill work. Where sanding bands are cylindrical and used with a mandrel barrel bit, sanding disks are flat circular abrasive disks used with a disk-style mandrel attachment. The flat disk profile makes them particularly effective for smoothing the nail surface and working across larger flat areas of the nail plate than a cylindrical band can cover efficiently.

Sanding Disks vs Sanding Bands

Sanding bands are better for contouring and shaping tasks where the cylindrical shape can follow the curves of the nail edge and cuticle area. Sanding disks work better for surface smoothing across the flat nail plate and for pedicure work on larger surface areas. Hygiene and Replacement

Sanding disks, like sanding bands, are disposable and should be replaced between clients. The porous abrasive surface cannot be fully disinfected after contact with a client’s nail and skin. Replace during a service when material clogging reduces the abrasive effectiveness of the disk.
