How the Cat Eye Effect Works
Cat eye gel polishes contain iron oxide or other magnetic particles suspended in the formula. When a strong nail art magnet is held close to the wet, uncured gel surface, the magnetic particles align in the direction of the magnetic field and create a line or streak of concentrated shimmer — the “cat eye” — while the surrounding gel stays as a darker colour base. The effect is locked in permanently when the gel is cured under the UV or LED lamp. The specific pattern depends on the type of magnet used — a standard bar magnet creates a clean straight line, while pattern magnets create different effects.

Glossy or Matte — Your Choice
All Nailistry Cat Eye gel polishes are compatible with both glossy super top coat and matte top coat. A glossy top coat enhances the reflective quality of the cat eye shimmer and creates maximum visual impact. A matte top coat softens the overall look while still showing the cat eye effect through the matte surface — creating a more understated, editorial cat eye aesthetic. Both finishing options work well with the Nailistry cat eye formula.
Colour Accuracy Note
Cat eye gel polishes look different under different lighting conditions — the streak appears more or less visible depending on the angle of the light source. Product images are captured under specific lighting that may not represent how the shade looks under all conditions. The actual shade may vary slightly compared to the displayed product image. The cat eye streak itself is most visible in direct light at a perpendicular angle to the nail.
Application
- Apply base coat and cure
- Apply one coat of Nailistry Cat Eye gel and cure fully
- Apply a second coat of cat eye gel — do not cure immediately
- Hold the cat eye magnet close to the wet gel surface for 20–30 seconds until the streak forms clearly
- Cure under UV or LED lamp without removing the streak
- Seal with glossy or matte top coat and cure to finish
